There is always another thing to do. A message needs an answer. Someone needs help. A good idea becomes another responsibility. Even work that begins with love can leave us measuring a day by how much we managed to finish.
In John 15, Jesus gives His disciples a different starting point. He describes Himself as the vine and them as the branches. Their life and fruit depend on remaining in Him. Before there is a task to complete, there is a relationship to receive and return to.
That matters when we serve others. Being needed can feel like evidence that we are doing well. But usefulness cannot carry the weight of our identity. We can care deeply about the work God has given us without asking it to prove our worth.
Remaining is not an excuse to withdraw from responsibility. It changes how we enter it. We can begin with prayer instead of panic. We can listen to Scripture before rushing to find another strategy. We can acknowledge our limits and trust that the whole outcome does not rest on us.
Today, make a little room before the next demand. Read the passage slowly. Tell Jesus what is pulling at your attention. Ask what faithfulness looks like in the next step, rather than trying to solve the whole week at once.
Take it into your week
Where have you started asking your work—even good ministry work—to give you what you need to receive from Christ?
